Day 1: UK - Cochin
Today you begin your journey with a flight to Cochin, via the Middle East.
Day 2: Cochin
On arrival in Cochin, you'll be transferred to your hotel for the next two nights. This evening you'll attend a traditional Kathakali performance, in which dancers wear elaborate costumes and makeup.
Day 3: Cochin
With a full day in Cochin, there's plenty of time to discover the sights of historic Fort Cochin. Wander the colonial streets towards St Francis, the oldest church in India, and visit the Dutch Palace.
This evening we enjoy a sunset cruise on the harbour, for views of the iconic Chinese fishing nets, and a stunning photo opportunity.
Day 4: Munnar
We spend the day travelling up the Western Ghat, to the tea growing region of Munnar, where we'll be staying for the next two nights.
Day 5: Munnar
Today we explore a local tea garden to watch the pluckers hard at work. We'll learn about the manufacturing process and also pay a visit to the Tea museum to discover India's tea heritage.
This afternoon brings a visit to Eravikulam National Park, in search of a rare mountain goat, named the Nilgiri tahr.
Day 6: Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary
Driving through lush, green countryside, we make our way into the Western Ghats to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, and our hotel for the next two nights.
Day 7: Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary
With a visit to a spice plantation, you'll gain an insight into how various spices are cultivated and processed, including cardamom, cloves and cinnamon.
This afternoon we'll take a boat trip on beautiful Lake Periyar, where you may have the opportunity to see wild elephant and a variety of birds.
Day 8: Kumarakom
Today we journey through hills and plantations, and make our way to the backwaters, near Kumarakom, for a two night stay.
Day 9: Kumarakom
Cruising the backwaters and expensive Lake Vembanad, we'll experience the unique way of life on these myriad waters. With its lush paddy fields and unique animal and bird life, its known as the 'Rice Bowl of Kerala', and also one of the few places farming is done below sea level.
Today we travel back to Cochin, where you'll join your flight back to the UK, via the Middle East.
