Join Claire, Travel Specialist in Nailsworth to explore the beauty of America’s historic East Coast on your guided tour of New England and New York’s Hudson Valley. Your trip begins in the “Big Apple” of New York City, where you’ll see iconic sights — from Broadway to the Empire State Building. Visit the Hartford, Connecticut homes of legendary American authors, Harriet Beecher Stowe and Mark Twain. Continue north to Lexington, Massachusetts, scene of the first battle of the American Revolution. Walk where history was made in Concord and Boston, and see the Old North Church of Paul Revere’s famous midnight ride. See the setting of the infamous Salem witch trials, a legendary lighthouse on Portland’s rocky shore, and New Hampshire’s charming covered bridges. Continue into the picturesque countryside of Vermont and learn the art of making maple syrup. You’ll spend two nights at the Essex Culinary Resort and Spa, and visit a local vineyard and heritage park reminiscent of old New England life.

Take the Lake Champlain ferry for a scenic crossing into New York, and travel through the Adirondack foothills to Lake Placid—host city of two winter Olympic Games. You’ll enjoy exploring the village, and spending the night in this lovely lakeside resort. On your way to the beautiful Berkshires, you’ll stop in Saratoga Springs for a tour of this favorite spa setting. Visit the Norman Rockwell Museum in the Berkshires, and travel along the Hudson River to the lavish Vanderbilt Mansion, then to West Point to learn about the esteemed military academy. Stay overnight in the mythical locale of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, before returning to New York City to conclude your guided tour of New England and the Hudson Valley. Day 1: New York City

Welcome to New York City! At 6 pm, meet your travelling companions for a welcome dinner. Your Tour Director will prepare you for your upcoming adventure. Meals included: Dinner

Day 2: New York - Hartford

This morning, a sightseeing tour with a Local Guide includes Broadway, the Empire State Building, City Hall, and Wall Street. Then, travel north to Connecticut for Nook Farm, Hartford's tightly knit historical community of intellectuals, leaders, and reformers. Visit the HARRIET BEECHER STOWE CENTER, the modest home of the author who penned Uncle Tom's Cabin and became known as "the little lady who started the Civil War." Then, visit MARK TWAIN'S HOUSE AND MUSEUM, for a guided tour of the writer's opulent 19-room home. Meals included: Breakfast

Day 3: Hartford - Lexington - Concord - Boston

This morning, continue north into Massachusetts to Lexington, the “birthplace of America” and the location of the first battle of the American Revolution on April 19, 1775. Visit Battle Green and the Minuteman Statue, a life-size representation of a colonial farmer with musket, and a tribute to the Lexington militia. Then on to historic BUCKMAN TAVERN, used as the headquarters to the militia during the American Revolution. Continue onto Concord visiting the Old North Bridge, site of the infamous “shot heard round the world” before enjoying lunch at the historic CONCORD COLONIAL INN. After lunch, continue to Boston for a free evening to explore this vibrant historic city. Perhaps enjoy one of the many popular restaurants in the North End. Meals included: Breakfast Lunch

Day 4: Boston

This morning, your guided sightseeing focuses on the city’s most prominent landmarks. See Boston Common; the Old State House; Old North Church, from where Paul Revere got the signal to start his famous ride; Freedom Trail; and Faneuil Hall, with a chance to browse through Quincy Market. The balance of your day is free to explore Boston. Be sure to visit the city’s wealth of museums and galleries. Meals included: Breakfast

Day 5: Boston - Salem - Portland

Today, we travel to Salem, famous for the 1692 witch trials, for a tour with a Local Guide. Next, follow the coast into Maine and stop at Cape Neddick’s Nubble Lighthouse. Admired by painters and photographers, this historic lighthouse sits on a large rock just offshore and continues aiding mariners by light and horn. Continue north to the old port town of Portland for an orientation tour followed by a SPECIAL PRESENTATION to learn about a day in the life of Cape Neddick’s Nubble Lighthouse “keeper.” Your evening is free to explore this Portland’s many restaurants, brewpubs, or art galleries. Meals included: Breakfast

Day 6: Portland - Freeport - Jackson

This morning, enjoy a leisure morning. After breakfast, travel to Freeport for an orientation tour and free time to enjoy the Casco Bay Village. Then, travel west into New Hampshire, visiting the picturesque Albany Covered Bridge before continuing further into the White Mountains for your overnight stay at the historic Eagle Mountain House. Meals included: Breakfast Dinner

Day 7: Jackson - Montpelier - Stowe - Essex

After breakfast, travel to Montpelier, the capital of Vermont, for an orientation tour and free time. Then, visit a MAPLE SYRUP FARM, where you'll learn the art of making maple syrup and enjoy a local treat. Continue west through the Green Mountains, stopping in beautiful Stowe with time to explore the quintessential New England village. Then, onto Essex where you will spend the next two nights at the countryside resort. SPECIAL FEATURE: Overnight at the elegant Essex, Vermont's Culinary Resort and Spa. Nestled in the countryside, the resort offers bold rooms with culinary themed decor highlighted with the textures and colours of food. With the famed Cook Academy onsite, the Essex is the perfect place for culinary exploration with the seasonally designed menus at the various onsite restaurants. Meals included: Breakfast

Day 8: Essex. Excursion to Shelburne

This morning, visit the SHELBURNE HERITAGE PARK, a unique experience of American history, art, and design. In addition to the decorative, folk, and fine art, you can explore the museum's multiple distinct New England structures, each filled with beautiful, fascinating, and whimsical objects. This afternoon, visit a certified sustainable winery, the SHELBURNE VINEYARD, for a sampling of Vermont's finest quality wine while learning of the vineyard's admirable practices. This afternoon, return to the resort for leisure time before a special DEMONSTRATION CULINARY EXPERIENCE dinner. Meals included: Breakfast Dinner

Day 9: Essex - Lake Champlain - Lake Placid

Today, continue to the shores of Lake Champlain and board a FERRY for the scenic crossing into New York. Travel through the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains to the village of Lake Placid, site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. This afternoon is free to explore the village. Why not visit the shop for souvenirs on Main Street, dine at a local restaurant, or enjoy your lakeside resort. Meals included: Breakfast

Day 10: Lake Placid - Saratoga Springs - Berkshires

This morning, visit the OLYMPIC CENTER for a guided tour to learn of the people who brought the Olympics to Lake Placid and the famed 1980 "Miracle on Ice" hockey game in which the United States beat the Soviet Union in their defending bid for gold. Then, travel south to the "Queen of the Spas," Saratoga Springs, for an orientation tour and free time to explore the rich heritage as a health resort. Later, continue into the Berkshires for a visit to the NORMAN ROCKWELL MUSEUM and enjoy the artist's works including his iconic Saturday Evening Post covers depicting small-town Americana. Meals included: Breakfast

Day 11: Berkshires - West Point - Tarrytown

After breakfast, travel along the Hudson River to VANDERBILT MANSION HISTORIC SITE for a private guided tour. The gilded age mansion, known as “Hyde Park” was home to Frederick William Vanderbilt and his family for nearly fifty years. After lunch, travel to WEST POINT MILITARY ACADEMY for a tour with a Local Guide. Learn the story of West Point, its role in the Revolution, stories of the graduates that shaped our nation, and the cadet experience. Tonight, your Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner. Meals included: Breakfast Dinner

Day 12: Tarrytown - New York City

After breakfast, time for independent exploration of Tarrytown, home to the fabled Sleepy Hollow Cemetery made famous by Washington Irving’s short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Continue to New York City for your homebound flight. The tour ends at the Sheraton New York Times Square in the late afternoon for those guests with extra nights. Meals included: Breakfast
