Liam's Epic Walking Adventure on the Amalfi Coast

liam

We arrived late afternoon into Naples Airport ready to start our Epic Walking adventure where a mini bus was ready and waiting to take us to a family run hotel called Hotel Due Torri in Agerola. The family were so warm and welcoming and our luggage was in our rooms within minutes. After a delicious meal, it was an early night in readiness for our first walk from Ravello to Amalfi.

 Villa Cimbrone

Our first stop was Ravello where we got to visit the luscious gardens of Villa Cimbrone with its breath-taking scenery and beautiful views across the surrounding rugged cliffs and beautiful green gardens. From here we started our descent into Amalfi. The walk had very dramatic scenery with the terrain changing frequently.

 barrels

We entered Valle de Ferriere, with its waterfalls and woodland, and walked past lemon orchards which eventually took us into Amalfi where we ended our first day of walking.

 duomo

There we got to see the Piazza Duomo, a real pin point in the centre of Amalfi. We had a mini bus ready to pick us up after we explored Amalfi to take us back to the hotel for lots of tasty colourful foods including antipasti, fish and yummy tiramisu for dessert. After this satisfying belly-full of food we got ready for the next day to Pompeii.

 ruin

The mini bus, yet again on time, took us to Pompeii to see the ruins - this was about an hour's drive which went by quickly whilst we absorbed the wonderful scenery. Pompeii was full of culture and history and there we had a professional guide to take us around, a jolly chap who was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable in his role.

We finished our walk around Pompeii and headed towards Vesuvius where we went to some local vineyards which produce top quality wine grapes in the volcanic soil. We visited a local restaurant where the food and wine were excellent, we had fresh pasta which had my taste buds exploding with flavours. We spent most of the afternoon having a long, leisurely Italian lunch. After a big feast we headed back to Agerola for an early night ready for The Path of the Gods.

 path of gods

After an early start with a tasty buffet breakfast, we were ready for the Path of the Gods, an iconic walk which is in the top 10 of European walks. The walk started in Boomerano and we were soon heading toward the stunning Positano.

This walk was longer then the first one, however it ticked all the boxes again with more breathtaking scenery, rugged cliffs and views across the coast. This time of the year is much quieter so the paths were calm, meaning you could really adjust to the nature around you. We got half way through the walk and stopped for lunch at a kiosk, this had a real rural feel serving local cuisine made with freshly produced ingredients, food that went down well again and soon we were ready for a 1000 plus steps descent into Positano. The steps went on and on however we got to see the vibrant pastel colours of Positano around us. We arrived in Positano for a quick Limoncello before heading back to the hotel for an evening recap on the day's treasured memories.

 path of gods

The last day came around quickly and we got to visit the mozzarella factory where a local showed us how the famous cheese is made, this involved great skill and took us away from the walking, adding a cultural feel to the trip. We then headed to a family run small restaurant for food and a dining experience which lasted most of the afternoon as there was so much to sample. We then headed back to the hotel to say goodbye to our hosts on our last night with some amazing company, having made lots of new friends.

Exodus holidays are fantastic for a cultural, social and adventure holiday, the guides on the trips are fantastic and really look after you, the service and quality of food is also superb. Would I go on an Exodus holiday again? Yes, as I was well looked after and achieved goals I never have before on a holiday.
