I adore Vienna, the city has a light and airy feel as well as the feeling of being safe. The atmosphere is very friendly and the way of life there is really laid-back. With a wealth of culture and local art and sculptures to admire, you reall can immsure yourself in the local culture or sit back, relax and have a coffee watching the world go by.

Austria's capital city is enriched with beautiful ornate buildings including the Winter and Summer Palaces, the Hofburg and Schonbrunn, as well as the famous Vienna Opera and the Spanish Riding School. Make sure you sample a pastry from one of the 2800 pastry shops. Shopping here is a delight with everything from designer shops to high street stores. A fabulous time to go is mid to late November for the Christmas markets. Want to find out more? Then please give me a call.

Austria is one of the most welcoming countries I have visited, not just for skiing in winter or hill walking in summer, but for its many other outdoor activities like canyoning, white water rafting and cycling. Top tip: for a great spa experience try the Aqua dome, Langenfeld Tyrol. Don’t miss: Schwarzes Kameel, Vienna - a popular cafe during the day and a great dining option in the evening, this restaurant has been an institution since 1618.

My first ski trip took me to Obergurgl, one of Austria's highest resorts and home to top quality accommodation. The resort is so high you can normally ski from November right through until May. I visited in April and the snow was still falling! Obergurgl is great for beginners (that was me!) but also offers plenty of runs for the intermediate and advanced skiers/boarders. I would recommend a visit to the quaint Nederhutte at an altitude of 2104 meters – they offer great hot chocolates to warm you up again and is also home to the great Apres-Ski!
