Full Itinerary

Day 1 - Cologne

Your trip begins with a flight to Düsseldorf, where a coach with transfer you to the ship. Take the time to settle in to your well equipped cabin and explore the ship facilities, or take a look around Cologne's picturesque historic centre. The dedicated English-speaking crew will welcome you aboard your first-class floating hotel, ensuring you settle in to your luxurious and well-equipped cabin and familiarise yourself with the ship.

Day 2 - Koblenz & Boppard

First port of call is historic Koblenz, dominated by its dramatic fortress overlooking the Rhine and Moselle. This morning you'll uncover the twisting streets and picturesque squares as you enjoy a guided walking tour of Old Town.

Enjoy a delicious lunch as you cruise further on towards Boppard, 'Pearl of the Rhine'. You'll have the chance to explore the village's half-timbered buildings and cobbled streets, surrounded by Germany's finest Roman walls. Admire the delightful stone quayside, lined by boats of all shapes and sizes, it really is one of the most attractive villages in the Rhineland.

Day 3 - Rüdesheim

Passing through the rhine Gorge today, you'll discover valley narrows, towering valley sides and a swift current to take you through. Crowned at every turn are fascinating castle ruins, and passing rocky outcrops and around twisting bends, you'll arrive at the famous Loreley Rock. According to legend, this is the spot where enchanted maidens lured unsuspecting sailors to their watery graves.

Next stop in Rüdesheim, wander through the backstreets and explore this true Rhine wine town surrounded by vineyards whose fruits you can sample in the many wine taverns you’ll find in its cobbled streets..

Day 4 - Mainz

This morning we take the short cruise to the confluence of the rivers Rhine and Main, and uncover Mainz. This fascinating town was an important Roman city for 500 years and includes the largest amphitheatre north of the Alps. The beautiful St Stephen's church is also a must-see, designed by great artist Marc Chagall, you can see the light flicker through lovely blue stain glass windows.

Another favourite among visitors is the excellent museum, where you can see two original Gutenberg Bibles, the earliest books every to be printed in Europe. The evening brigs a relaxing cruise further up the River Main, enjoy a delicious dinner as you watch the scenery pass you by.

Day 5 - Miltenberg & Wertheim

Continuing on our journey takes us between dense forests to the beautiful small town of Miltenberg. Surrounded by ancient walls which protect the nearby castle, Miltenberg is one of Germany's most well-preserved medieval villages.

Enjoy a delicious lunch as you continue on along the River Main, pausing at the unknown gem, Wertheim.

Day 6 - Würzburg

Our next port of call is the elegant Bavarian city of Würzburg, situated at the head of Germany's 'Romantic Road'. Admire the grand pastel buildings hugging the shoreline of this great river, before embarking on a walking tour of the city.

Explore one of Europe's finest Baroque palaces, and admire the artistic delicacy of this truly magnificent former Residenz of Prince Bishops.

Day 7 - Bamberg

Today you'll visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bamberg. Planned as a capital grand as Rome in the 11th century, Bamberg certainly doesn't disappoint with its wealth of historic buildings.

Wander the fascinating lanes of the pretty Old Town, admire the beauty of the tall merchants' houses, explore the picturesque canal paths and visit the striking multi-spired cathedral.

Day 8 - Nuremberg

Nuremberg is an intriguing Bavarian city, known for its associations with the Second World War. It was once the site where many pre-war Nazi rallies occurred, and later the International War Crimes Tribunal, which brought down that notorious regime. Today its picture-perfect streets and stunning landmarks will enchant visitors, in particular the beautiful Gothic Church of St Lawrence and the stunning Kaiserburg Castle.

You'll enjoy a guided tour where you'll discover the great ramparts and fine historic buildings from Nuremberg's Imperial Age.Stopping at Craftsmen's Court and the beautiful fountain of Market Square.

Day 9 - Regensburg

Continuing along the Main-Danube canal, we'll head towards Kelheim and one of the most famous and beautiful rivers in the world, the Danube. Stopping at Regensburg, you'll see the imposing cathedral of this once Roman garrison. This UNESCO World Heritage Site its very well preserved, making it pure joy to wander.

Walk across the iconic Stone Bridge, see the Altes Rathaus, the town hall and this historic centre of this wonderfully well-preserved medieval city.

Day 10 - Passau

Today the journey brings you to Passau, our last town in Germany. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as you sail into Austria, watching the stunning scenery pass as you go.

Swap stories with like-minded travellers and enjoy the facilities on board as the Captain skilfully navigates through the narrowing valley.

Day 11 - Melk & Vienna

Arriving in Melk, you'll notice on first glance the enormous Benedictine Abbey, hovering above town on the impressive rocky bluff. Built originally as a Hapsburg Palace in the 11th century, it has many fine rooms and a wonderful library featuring more than 80,000 priceless volumes and medieval manuscripts. In the 18th century it was reconstructed in full Baroque style, and is definitely a favourite among visitors.

Cruising further downstream, you'll enjoy a delicious lunch on board, admiring views of the picturesque Wachau Valley. Approaching Strauss in Vienna, you'll celebrate the city's wonderful legacy with a classical quartet recital on board.

Day 12 - Vienna

Today you get to explore one of the real gems of Central Europe and one of the most musical cities in the world, Vienna. Get an insight into the history and culture of this amazing town with a guided tour of this civilised capital, including magnificent buildings, galleries, palaces and churches.

You'll pay a visit to the lovely St Stephen's cathedral, followed by the former Royal Court, which is now a wonderful collection of museums, and home to the crown jewels. You'll also find one of the largest art collections, relics of the Holy Roman Empire, the Vienna Boys' Choirs and of course the famous Spanish Riding School, you'll be able to explore all this and more with an afternoon at leisure.

Day 13 - Bratislava

This morning you will explore Bratislava, Slovakia's buzzing capital city. Explore the beautifully restored baroque old town, wander the winding streets to the Main Square and explore the former old town hall, now a museum dedicated to the history of the city. Equally as impressive is the great 17th century fortress, which dominates the city and offers expansive views across the Danube. You could even visit the Primatial Palace, complete with its famous Hall of Mirrors and rare collection of tapestries.

In the afternoon the cruise continues along the dramatic Danube Bend, winding through narrow twisting valleys, flanked by high mountains and verdant hillsides. Passing ancient castle ruins and historic towns, there'll be plenty of spectacular scenes as you cruise into Budapest.

Day 14 - Budapest

Next port is the beautiful Imperial capital of Budapest, and with a full day here, there's plenty of opportunity to see the best of it. With a truly magnificent skyline of archaic spires, grand domes and a dominating castle, its often referred to as 'Little Paris of Middle Europe'. With amazing monuments reflecting both local culture and foreign powers, Budapest has an impressive contrast of interesting sites.

From ruins of Roman times Turkish baths from the Ottoman Empire, palatial buildings, Art Nouveau architecture and even baroque churches, all to the soundtrack of Hungary's beautiful music and language. You'll experience all this and more with a guided tour, taking you to places such as the iconic Parliament Building, followed by an afternoon at your own leisure.

This evening you'll enjoy the 'Captain's Dinner', delivering delicious local specialities of the regions you've visited, as you share stories and experiences with your fellow travellers.

Day 15 - Return

Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, and here is that point for you. You'll disembark and be transferred to the airport for your flight home or Eurostar.
