Stars of the Canaries
Stars of the Canaries
Be mesmerized by the celestial beauty of the night skies above the Canary Islands, one of the best places in the world for stargazing. Take this opportunity to explore the world’s largest solar observatory, Teide Observatory, on a guided tour and perhaps see the wonderful spectacle of sunset from one of Teide National Park's lookouts during an overnight stay in Tenerife. You can also look forward to sampling delicious Canarian cuisine, washed down with a glass of locally-produced wine. Contrast the lush landscapes of Madeira with the sand dunes of Gran Canaria and lunar-like terrain of Lanzarote, where thrill-seekers will enjoy trekking up the Cuervo Volcano to peer across the impressive crater and beyond. Broaden your horizons even further on board Spirit of Adventure with talks from an astronomer and stargazing from the deck. The Spanish city of Cadiz, which brims with historic treasures that are easily explored on foot, provides a fitting finale to your 14-night cruise

Day 5: Funchal, Madeira
Discover Madeira's historic capital. The natural bay is protected by the highest peaks on the island and consequently the city enjoys the best sunshine. Visit Funchal’s Old Town to soak up the atmosphere and perhaps relax at a cafe with a glass of Madeira wine.
Day 6 & 7: Santa Cruz, Tenerife
A rugged island of sweeping valleys, towering peaks, caves and golden beaches, Tenerife's varied landscape is crowned by Mount Teide volcano. The island is one of the best locations for star observation, away from the light pollution of the urban areas. During your overnight stay enjoy the opportunity to visit Teide Observatory, the world’s largest solar observatory, and take an exhilarating cable-car ride to the summit of Mount Teide. You also have the option to sample Canarian cuisine with a special cocktail dinner, followed by stargazing with the help of a guide and professional telescopes.
Day 8: Las Palmas, Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria is a beautiful, sun-kissed isle dotted with historic buildings and charming fishing ports. You'll be able to admire the brightly-painted houses and distinctive architecture of Las Palmas, the lively capital which is set on the north coast between two spectacular bays.
Day 9: Arrecife, Lanzarote
The dark volcanic rock and pristine beaches combined with the arid landscape gives Lanzarote a haunting beauty. See more of the unusual terrain on a trek up the incredible Cuervo Volcano, before venturing into La Geria wine country where you can relax and enjoy a wine tasting.
Day 10: At sea
Spend the day at sea.
Day 11: Cadiz, Spain
Christopher Columbus left the sheltered bay of this city on two of his voyages to the New World, and one might wonder whether it was difficult for him to leave the turquoise waters and charming buildings of the old world behind! Cadiz is split into two areas, and the spacious avenues and modern buildings of the new district contrast with the authentic, well preserved traditional city with its flat-roofed Moorish-style houses and narrow, twisting alleys.
Day 12 - 14: At sea
Spend 3 days at sea.
Day 15: Southampton, England
Disembark Spirit of Adventure after breakfast.
