Having experienced a Viking Ocean ship first-hand I can confidently confirm the claim that they are sleek, stylish and built for pleasure. In my opinion Viking Ocean ships set a new standard in on-board Scandi-chic and innovation. Dine in a different restaurant every night for free, enjoy the privacy of your own veranda and lap up the views from the first infinity pool at sea. Everything you need to enjoy yourself is included in the price. If you are thinking of a Viking cruise I can thoroughly recommend the whole experience.

Full Itinerary

Day 1 & 2: Stockholm, Sweden

Today you will embark your ship in Stockholm. Laced by an ingenuous network of waterways and bridges, Stockholm is easily seen on foot or by way of waterway cruise. Stockholm's magnificent 17th-century palace which watches over the city's wonderful harbour is definitely a must-see.

Day 3: Helsinki, Finland

With its dramatic coastline coloured by bays and inlets, Helisinki is a classic sea-city. Explore the city's historical roots, its Art Nouveau architecture and its wonderful people.

Day 4 & 5: St Petersburg, Russia

You'll spend two days exploring and discovering the cultural centre of Russia, St Petersburg. Founded by the Russian Tsar, Peter the Great, the city is famous for its spectacular architecture, Tchaikovsky operas and the stunning Kirov ballet.

Day 6: Tallinn, Estonia

Today you'll arrive at Tallinn, the capital of Estonia where you'll experience the impressive mix of historic housing blending seamlessly with modern cafés and boutiques. Journey inside the ancient walls of Old Town and explore landmarks such as the Toompea Castle or visit the Kadriory Palace, once home to Tsar, Peter I, and marvel at the perfectly sculpted gardens and peaceful surrounding woodlands.

Day 7: Cruise the Baltic Sea

Day 8: Gdansk, Poland

Your stop in Gdańsk is a visit to one of the richest cities in the Hanseatic League of old. Spend the morning strolling the remarkably restored Old Town with its mix of Gothic, Renaissance and baroque styles. Perhaps you’ll indulge in the traditional pierogi dumplings, or a glass of gold-flecked Goldwasser—a liqueur created here in the 16th century. Or, opt to explore the medieval Teutonic stronghold of Malbork Castle, the world’s largest brick castle and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 9: Berlin, Germany

From port, take the included transfer through the scenic countryside of the Mecklenburg region to Germany’s historic capital, Berlin—just a few hours away—where you will have the day to explore. Here you can discover at your own pace the major sights of the Berlin Wall, Alexanderplatz square and Checkpoint Charlie. Alternatively, on an optional tour take lunch in the Käfer restaurant, which perches atop the magnificent Reichstag.

Day 10: Copenhagen, Denmark

Originally a Viking fishing village founded in the 10th century, the Danish capital boasts over 850 years of history. With an entire day to explore, pass the brightly coloured houses of Nyhavn, or New Harbour, once the home of Hans Christian Andersen. Discover the sumptuously rococo interiors of Amalienborg Palace, the winter residence of the Danish royal family. You may also want to consider a trip to the ornate Kronborg Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the inspirational setting of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. This fairy-tale city provides plenty to explore, including delights for your palate at one of the many Michelin-starred restaurants, where you can indulge in a decadent lunch or an early dinner.

Day 11: Alborg, Denmark

Founded by the Vikings in the late 900s, this historic city straddles both sides of the Limfjord Sound. Spend the morning strolling along to Nytorv (New Square) to see the Renaissance-style Jens Bang’s House, the baroque-style Town Hall, and the charming 14th-century Budolfi Church. Take in the lively Jomfru Ane Gade, a street lined with trendy cafés and restaurants. Or, opt for a tour led by a local chef to taste traditional aquavit, an herb-infused spirit distilled here since the 15th century.

Day 12: Stavanger, Norway

The gateway to Norway's spectacularly scenic fjordland, Stavanger is also a town with its own rich heritage as it is regarded as the ‘Cradle of the Vikings’. Your ship will dock right next to Gamle Stavanger, the old quarter, with its collection of 200-year-old white wooden houses (considered national heritage monuments in their own right), 12th century cathedral modelled on Winchester Cathedral, markets, craft stores and art galleries.

Day 13: Eidfjord, Norway

Eidfjord is a picturesque village set within the breathtaking Hardangerfjord. It's a gateway to some of the region's most spectacular highlights, including the Hardangervidda Nature Centre and the Voringfossen Waterfall.

Day 14 & 15: Bergen, Norway

Many visitors fall in love with Norway’s second largest city, Bergen, at first sight. Seven rounded lush mountains, pastel wood houses, the historic wharf, winding cobblestone streets, and Hanseatic relics all make it a place of enchantment. Its many epithets include "Trebyen" (Wooden City), "Regnbyen" (Rainy City, due to its 240 days of rain a year), and "Fjordbyen" (gateway to the fjords). Skiing, hiking, walking, fishing and boating are the most popular things to do here.
