Classic Sorrento

Overview

Imperial Hotel Tramontano

Star Rating: ****

Rising out of the rocks of the Sorrentine Peninsula, the Imperial Hotel Tramontano is situated amid lush grounds and is ideally located in the historic centre of bustling Sorrento on the Neapolitan Riviera. The hotel is traditional and the style is that of faded grandeur. It embraces its unique heritage - once a popular stop on the Grand Tours of the 18th and 19th centuries, the hotel has played host to many illustrious writers, including Byron, Shelley and Keats. And we can see why - the stupendous sea views over the Bay of Naples come complete with Mount Vesuvius in the background.

The hotel’s gardens, designed in 1888, are home to many rare, centuries-old Mediterranean and sub-tropical plants. Picture yourself in the evenings on the hotel’s wonderful bar terrace, an aperitivo in hand, watching a stunning sunset.

Bedrooms are dated and incorporate the hotel's historic features.

The tranquil pool means you don’t ever have to leave the grounds, but if you fancy a dip in the sea, then why not make a splash by taking the lift down to the bathing platform located directly below the hotel ( not owned by the hotel) , entrance is free of charge but sunbeds and umbrellas are payable locally ( in 2023 the charge was €16 per day for a sunbed €8 per day for an umbrella). The platform also provides easy access to the port and is a great departure point for visiting the rest of this stunning area, including the nearby (and gorgeous) Amalfi coast and island of Capri.

The hotel has 109 rooms (official rating 4 stars). Child prices apply to ages 2-12 ages.
