Full Itinerary

Day 1 - 3: UK - Christchurch

Day 3 - 5: Christchurch

On arrival in Christchurch, make your way to your centrally located hotel and spend some time exploring the wonderfully diverse Canterbury region. The area is home to a host of activities from wine tasting to relaxing nature cruises.
Overnight - Orabi Bed & Breakfast Meals - Breakfast

Day 5 - 7: Christchurch - Kaikoura (113 miles)

Collect your hire car this morning and take the coastal route towards the beautiful resort of Kaikoura, situated on a narrow strip of stunning coastline that lies between mountain peaks and the Pacific Ocean. Whilst here why not take a boat trip to spot Hump Back, Pilot, Blue, Sperm and Southern Right whales or take to the skies to see these magnificent creatures from the air.
Overnight - Bella Vista Motel Meals - Breakfast

Day 7 - 9: Kaikoura - Nelson (151 miles)

This coastal route to Nelson deliberately avoids the highway to give you one of the most beautiful scenic drives you will every experience. Stop off at Havelock for some green-shell mussels by the sea - you may even be lucky enough to spot a dolphin or two! Nelson itself enjoys a thriving arts scene and is the gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park, a year-round destination and deserving of at least one day's exploration. You can drive to the entrance of the park or, for a truly memorable arrival, take a water taxi from Nelson and enjoy a break from driving.
Overnight - Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco Meals - Breakfast

Day 9 - 10: Nelson - Punakaiki (164 miles)

Head south today via Nelson Lakes to the coast. This route less travelled takes you past pristine lakes and through spectacular gorges before you arrive at the wild and rugged west shores.
Overnight - Punakaiki Resort Meals - Breakfast

Day 10 - 12: Punakaiki - Franz Josef (125 miles)

It's worth getting up early this morning to take a walk around the Pancake Rocks and Blowhole. If the tide is on your side you will see the stunning spectacle as the sea is forced up through the rocks and explodes through the hole at the top.

En route to glacier country stop at Greymouth for lunch, the heart of the New Zealand mining industry. The best way to enjoy the spectacular glaciers of Franz and Fox is by helicopter, with options that include heli-hiking and snow landings.
Overnight - 58 On Cron Meals - Breakfast

Day 12 - 14: Franz Josef - Wanaka (150 miles)

Head towards to the Southern Lakes region and the beautiful lakefront town of Wanaka. En route stop at the small town of Fox, home to the picture perfect Lake Matheson.

Quieter than its neighbour Queenstown, Wanaka is a fantastic place to relax and enjoy the scenery. It's also home to a host of airborne activities including the unique experience of taken to the skies in one of a collection of vintage planes, including a Tiger Moth. As you fly over the spectacular lake you have the opportunity to take control of the aircraft yourself - only if you want to of course! New to Wanaka is Warbirds and Wheels, the southern hemisphere's finest collection of vintage cars, fighter planes, military aircraft and hot rods.
Overnight - Alpine Resort Meals - Breakfast

Day 15: Queenstown - UK

Make your way to Queenstown airport and drop off your hire car before flying back to the UK. Alternatively spend some time in Queenstown and explore Fiordland and the wonderful Milford Sound.
