28th October 2016: Less than one hour south from the historical city of Dubrovnik lays the beautiful town of Cavtat. This sleepy town is awash with palm trees lining its promenade and has a wide choice of charming cafés and restaurants. With its mixture of cultural treasures and good walking trails you’ll feel the town’s character and charm on your visit.
Fresh from my recent visit, I had the opportunity to see hotels in the local area and while there are some definite hits, there are also a few misses. Here’s my guide to staying in Cavtat.
Hotel Cavtat
This boutique-style hotel is bright and fresh upon its first appearance and with its 131 rooms, most of which have a sea view, Hotel Cavtat is great place to relax after a busy day sight-seeing. Both B&B and Half Board are available at the hotel so you can have the flexibility to explore the great choice of restaurants in the town. Hotel Cavtat has a wide range of room categories and extra beds are possible in most; it also boasts an infinity pool which is in a raised position giving you fantastic views overlooking the nearby bay and beach. This hotel is best for those who like rooms (and food) with a view.
Hotel Albatros
At first glance, I noticed this hotel is tired and its décor, out-dated. The hotel is very ‘high-rise’ in its style and it isn’t very attractive to the eye. While rated four stars, I felt as though it would be more appropriately rated as a three star all-inclusive resort. I felt it lacked the elegance and modernity of many hotels also available in the area. There are however, some positives in choosing the Hotel Albatros for the night.
The hotel is well situated, only 800m from the centre of Cavtat; it is also very close to the beach and boasts indoor and outdoor swimming pools. In my opinion I felt the hotel more suited for groups and families with children, as there were plenty of daytime sporting activities to occupy your time.
Hotel Croatia
Last but definitely not least, I toured the Hotel Croatia. Wow! This genuine five star property has absolutely spectacular views from its elevated position. With four quality restaurants to choose from, you really are spoilt for choice whether you opt for Half Board or B&B. Rooms and suites in this large hotel are decorated to a high standard and offer stunning views of the surrounding ocean. The hotel boasts a beautiful and tranquil Japanese garden, indoor and outdoor seawater pools and a spa.
Just a short stroll away you’ll find the palm tree-lined bay which acts as the hub for this beautiful resort. The hotel could suit all tastes due to the space in the surrounding grounds and public areas. During Jul/Aug children’s entertainment is also available.
