Luxurious Beachcomber Resorts in Mauritius

Eva 19th October 2017: On a recent trip, Eva, Manager at our Abergavenny branch, was lucky enough to spend a week in Mauritius sampling the delights of all eight Beachcomber properties. Eva finds out what makes these resorts so special and stand out from other hotels on the island... Beachcomber’s ethos is that your holiday, wedding or honeymoon is an exquisite treasured moment which you cherish forever and so, your holiday should be perfect. I totally agree. Within a Beachcomber resort, you'll find championship golf courses, relaxing spas, gyms, speciality water sports, children's clubs and most of all, and in my opinion, the most important bit, impeccable service and wonderful staff.

Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury Hotel

My first stop on this trip was the Royal Palm Hotel, the most prestigious address on the island. Not only is the Royal Palm a 5* hotel it is also a member of the 'Leading Hotels of the World' which rates some of the world's most exquisite hotels. To be considered for inclusion, a hotel must be in the 'luxury' category and meet exacting standards for accommodation, service, cuisine, service and facilities. Only the world's most distinguished hotels are accepted. Room Royal Palm A haven where time stands still, the Royal Palm, known for its finesse, discrete luxury and excellent service, includes 69 suites and to stay here was such a privilege. The hotel is calm and has a certain reverence to it. One evening, I was having dinner and wondered what truly makes this hotel stand out from other prestigious properties? Royal palm pool Having been lucky enough over my career to have stayed in many a sensational hotel, as I sat looking out to some of the others accompanying me on this trip, I witnessed with the click of a finger, one of the hotel personnel produce on a silver tray, two pashminas for the ladies to use. It was then I realised, what makes the Royal Palm stand out; its attention to detail. Service I noticed the hotel has its own helipad so, if you so wish, helicopter transfers are also an option here. However, one must land their helicopter by 3pm, so as not to disturb the clients in the spa!

Dinarobin & Paradis Golf Resort and Spa

For me, the most beautiful location of all the hotels I visited is the Dinarobin and Paradis Golf Resort and Spa; the setting is simply breathtaking. It is located at the tip of the Le Morne Peninsula and nestles at the foot of Morne Mountain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site surrounded by a crystal lagoon. pool Dinarobin is another luxury 5* property and features all-suite accommodation. In my opinion, The Dinarobin has the most beautiful spa of all. With 11 massage rooms, two saunas and a meditation room just a handful of the facilities here, it’s not hard to see why. spa The Dinarobin shares some of its facilities with the Paradis Golf Resort and Spa. Boasting a world-class 18 hole golf course and golf academy, the Paradis offers guests the best of both worlds, rest and relaxation coupled with land and water sports packages. Golf course Every water sport you can think of is catered for here and, both hotels have a 'dine around' option so guests have access to a total of eight different restaurants across both hotels. Helicopter transfers are also an option here as the Paradis is another hotel here which has its own helipad. Both hotels are connected by a little shuttle. Private beach Both resorts offer villa accommodation for those who want an extra bit of space or are holidaying with family. Both also boast private beaches so there's no worry about overcrowding. After my time here, I came to the conclusion that both hotels would make for the perfect getaway for couples, however I would suggest families stay at the Paradis as there are more activities for children including a children's club.

Trou aux Biches

If I had to choose, I think my favourite hotel of the ones I visited would have to be Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Resort and Spa. Located close to lively Grande Baie hotel, Trou aux Biches gives you the option to explore and, in my opinion, offers guests one of the best beaches. Beach The perfect tropical paradise, the atmosphere surrounding Trou aux Biches is romantic and alluring. Its all-suite accommodation is situated amongst beautiful tropical gardens and alongside a stunning white sand beach. Trou Aux Biches They have the best bathrooms ever with outdoor showers, and one of the highlights of this hotel is the option to dine at six different restaurants. I highly recommend the Mahiya Restaurant as during my time here I had some of the best Indian food I have ever tasted! One of the best spots to watch the sunset on the beach is here, with a glass of champagne of course. Restaurant

Shandrani Beachcomber Resort

In my opinion, one of the best hotels for families has to be the 5* Shandrani Beachcomber Resort. With so many things included in its all-inclusive packages you'd be pushed to find something wrong with this hotel, and, any hotel which serves champagne by the glass, is a winner in my books! Shandrani Located on a peninsula, it has three private beaches overlooking a Marine Park and the water sport facilities here are exceptional and include a sailing school. Don't forget about the 9 hole golf course at this resort either. My favourite beach on all the island was on this property and voted 'Best Beach in Mauritius', you won't want to miss your chance to experience Wild Beach. Shandrani beach

Victoria, Canonnier and Mauricia Beacomber Resorts

If you want a more lively experience the Victoria, Canonnier and Mauricia Beachcomber resorts would be ideal choices. These three hotels again, have a 'dine around' option and are close to the famous coastal village of Grand Baie, so guests here have the option of experiencing the local markets and restaurants too. Sunset Victoria has a real Caribbean feel to it and boasts the largest rooms in Mauritius. It had a real party atmosphere and excellent entertainment team. Again, this hotel has no shortage of an excellent range of water sports, spa facilities and beach locations. Cannon The Canonnier resort was really fascinating and offered a different type of atmosphere due to its historical location. Situated within the grounds of a 19th century lighthouse, the hotel houses the mini club, ruined fortress and historical cannon remains. Set in tropical gardens, the showstopper here is its spa which is built around a 200 year old Banyan Tree. This hotel makes for a great family choice. Spa At Mauricia Beachcomber, you'll find a perfect blend of relaxation and fun. Situated within walking distance from Grand Baie you really do get a great choice of dining and activity options. Very Mediterranean in style, the hotel is cosmopolitan and has an relaxed atmosphere to it. Mauricia room

Final Thoughts

What a privilege it was to experience every one of Beachcomber’s eight resorts. The stunning locations really do speak for themselves. While the hotels follow the same format, each has its own unique twist on luxury, experiences and atmosphere. Once you’ve experienced the charm of a Beachcomber resort and the surrounding spectacular island, your new memories will stay with you forever.
