My Guide to Luxury Hotels in Mauritius

Judy in Mauritius

8th April 2016: I’ve been very fortunate to recently enjoy an amazing visit to the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius. I travelled with If Only and enjoyed a week exploring this enchanting island, its sights and hotels.

The island has 330 kms of stunning coastline and is sheltered from the open sea by the world's third largest coral reef. It has natural crystal clear lagoons with golden sandy beaches, and is famous for the many acres of sugar plantations which are visible from all points on the island. Rum is also produced and exported.

Lux Belle Mare

After the direct flight from London to Mauritius which is approximately twelve hours, I took a transfer to the stunning hotel Lux Belle Mare. I received a very warm welcome and later enjoyed an amazing dinner after a tour of the hotel with a nightcap of local rum with exotic flavours.

Paradise Cove Hotel

Heading north, I arrived at the Paradise Cove Hotel. This is a superb small boutique hotel where I enjoyed an amazing dinner on the beach.

Sugar Beach Resort & Spa

My next stop was Port Louis, the capital of the island. Here I stopped and enjoyed watching the comings and goings of the daily life of the local inhabitants before we arrived at the Sugar Beach Resort & Spa at the resort of Flic en Flac on the West Coast.

Heritage Le Telfair Golf and Spa Hotel

The next day I was up early with bags packed and travelled to the jetty of La Carangue where we boarded a catamaran for a wonderful day sailing in the Indian Ocean. I enjoyed some local rum, an excellent BBQ lunch, and there was time for snorkelling! I then took a boat across to a nearby beach for a cooling swim, and ended this amazing day with a very scenic journey by road to the Heritage Le Telfair Golf and Spa Hotel. This is a beautiful hotel built in colonial style and surrounded by mature trees in a stunning beachside location. I also visited Chateau De Bel Ombre which was originally a sugar plantation home built in traditional colonial architecture.

Preskil Beach Resort

Our last day was spent at the Preskil Beach Resort. I enjoyed not only a wonderful lunch on the beach but then a most relaxing massage prior to our transfer to the airport for the return flight back to London Heathrow and some chilly weather.

I left Mauritius with some wonderful photos and memories and cannot wait for my return visit! Do give me a call or come in and see me in Cheltenham to find out more about these wonderful hotels.

If Only have given us some fantastic offers on these hotels, see our latest offers to the Indian Ocean & Arabia here.
